OVERVIEW
Electromotive Drug Administration, also known as EMDA® is used to increase the effectiveness of a drug inserted into the bladder.
The procedure is minimally invasive and is administered as an out-patient treatment.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The EMDA® Physionizer Current Generator utilizes a small electric current to accelerate and deliver ionized drug molecules into the tissue by active transport.
A catheter is passed into the bladder via the urethra with local anaesthetic administered to minimise discomfort. The bladder is drained of urine and then the prescribed treatment is passed via the catheter into the bladder. Two electrode pads are placed on the lower abdomen and connected to the EMDA®
The rate of drug administration is fully controllable by the medical practitioner, varying the intensity of the electrical current to suit the patient.
